McDonnell Douglas FA-18 Hornet (16-1746) - From the archives (3 Sept 2006), this was a rare treat to watch a Blue Angel sunset departure over Lake Erie in Cleveland. US Navy Blue Angel #7 (cn 0103) made a quick trip to NAS Oceana to pick up parts for the #2 aircraft. Impressive view, complete with sunset, sailboats, and seagulls!

Fascinating. Though the Hornet is certainly faster than a car or a military air transport, I have to wonder what kind of part they'd be picking up in a fighter. I guess...#7 has two seats so they could just throw it in the back. But it must have been small, and not too fragile.

Taylor, they wanted to get the part ASAP so #2 could fly the next day so the made a quick trip down and back to pick up a small landing gear actuator. I’ve uploaded a few more pix from the event.

FLY NAVY!

Ah that seems reasonable enough, a gear actuator rod isn't too big. Neat!

And the bird!
