Lockheed C-130 Hercules —
Comments
WOW!
This is what it looked like at our local South African Air Force Base back in the 1970's and 80's.
We were engaged in an Angolan border war against a Terrorist group that was supported by Russian and Cuban forces. Our forces were transported to a Namibian Air Force Base closest to the Angolan border in these reliable workhorse Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft. As the Namibian Air Force Base was close to enemy lines our landing strategy there was done by either doing a spiral descent or an almost 90°
nose down dive from above the base.
