Qantas has eight 787-9s on order, which will be configured with 236 seats in a three-class layout and powered by General Electric GEnx engines.

The Oneworld carrier has previously said that the first four of the type will be based in Melbourne, while the remaining four will be based in Brisbane.

Qantas will use the 787-9s to launch the first ever nonstop services between Australia and Europe when its Melbourne-Perth-London Heathrow services commence in March 2018.
