Chris Götke overcomes 'mechanical difficulties' to bring classic jet fighter safely to ground, averting a tragedy with a crash landing

This dramatic footage shows the moment a Royal Navy Sea Fury plane crash-landed at RNAS Culdrose Air Day in Cornwall.

Smoke can be seen billowing from behind the plane, which took flight in the penultimate display of the annual event on July 31.

It is understood the plane encountered mechanical difficulties.

Its pilot, Lt Cdr Chris Götke, requested to land immediately but seemed to suffer further difficulties as he tried to release the undercarriage of the plane.

Spectators described the incident as "an amazing piece of emergency flying".

Good job, Chris.
