United Airlines said it’s considering buying Boeing Co.’s largest twin-engine jetliners as a swap for other aircraft it already has on order from the world’s largest planemaker.

“We are not currently considering purchasing incremental wide-body aircraft,” Megan McCarthy, a United spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. “We do, however, hold the ability to negotiate the substitution of certain aircraft types for other aircraft types as part of our flexible fleet plan, and we are considering the Boeing 777-300ER in this context.”
