OMG Matt you shouldnt have posted that..some folks will see the picture and think its a fake because there is no snow on the ground, in October, in Iqulait...lol

Just try the same thing in Russian airspace without clearance. Emergency or not.
Who says it didn't have clearance? Of course it did. It was flying through Canadian air space on its planned and approved route.
Many polar flights traverse Russian airspace every day. A passenger medical emergency would yield the same result there.
