India's Cochin International Airport First to Run Entirely on Solar Power
All of the airport's energy requirements are met thanks to a roof-mounted installation on the terminal, as well as a solar plant beside the cargo warehouse. The plant comprises 46,150 panels that spread across 45 acres and generates 12MW -- with any excess power being pushed back into the local grid. Over the next 25 years, it's expected to save roughly 300,000 metric tons of carbon, and produce enough power to feed 10,000 homes for one year. (www.engadget.com) 更多...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
I do assume we have battery backup or something here to level out the cloudy days and at night?
The solar panels charge batteries. My friend who lives off the grid in Colorado has a generator to back this up. The solar panels do not generate electricity directly.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Generally solar panels lose productivity every year and do so at a relatively fast rate. Then take in the fact that the number of good energy producing days per year are limited and change constantly. I can see this becoming an issue
Thank goodness , we're first in something - in a good way ;-p
