提交时间:

RIVERSIDE (AP) — A preliminary report by investigators says the pilot of a small plane that crashed in Southern California last month had difficulty starting one engine. The report Wednesday by National Transportation Safety Board investigators says the pilot started the right engine of the Cessna T310Q and made several unsuccessful attempts to start the left engine before it began running. Sounds like at least a couple 'red herrings' swimming around here in this report. Investigators will have to put all the pieces together. I can't attest to his age and demeanor. What I CAN attest to is that hot starting an engine on a twin Cessna can be a bitch at times and probably not the fault of the engine itself. We'll see.

I have seen both cold and hot starts with that series of engines even on singles. Sometimes a hot start at night with them can be quite a site. Had a turbo 206 one night give quite a burst out of the pipe when it latterly lit off.
Bottom line is several things, weather was poor and some airports can be a challenge to taxi around as even the big guys find it hard, bad radios can cause problems with communications, but once started an engine that runs up ok is good to go.

Crash forensic investigation should be able to get to the bottom of this one. While everything means something, difficulty starting an engine and age are just data points and still far from factors in the accident cause. May the survivor who passed rest in peace.
