A classic picture of an iconic airplane and airline and a sight that will be hard to see in just 2 years when the remaining 9 operating 747s of the Qantas fleet will have been retired. Some really good 747 airframes will be going cheap then. The record-setting 747-400 VH-OJA is preserved as a static display at a GA Airport just a few minutes flying time south of Sydney and a 747-200 is also preserved at the Qantas Museum in outback Queensland. Qantas made 747 history 40 years ago when, with the retirement of its last 707, it became the only airline in the world to operate an exclusively 747 fleet, at a time when DC-10s were falling from the skies.
