Excellent aircraft that few of today's airline jocks could fly.
Lockheed P-38 Lightning. Beautiful bird.
My favorite WWII fighter.......Gorgeous!!!!!
When we allowed to get under the pylons at the Reno Air Races, she would fly overhead by about 50' and at 385 MPH. The ground would shake as if an earthquake just hit. What a rush!
Too bad they invented jet engines so early. Prop a/c were really getting kool after WWII....
When I took pilot's training at Langley, B.C., my instructor was a former W.W. II pilot who flew this aircraft. He told how if you cut all power to one engine and full power to the other he could put it into a flat spin. Now that's exciting!
Antoine de saint Exupery (little prince) flew the P38 and died in it !
Richard Bong was the high score fighter pilot in WW2 in a P 38
