Lockheed C-130 Hercules (CGNR2010)
This Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak (Alaska) based HC-130H Super Hercules, CGNR2010, retrofitted with the Minotaur Mission System Suite which enables long range surveillance, is snapped here as it is taking off from Runway 34R enroute back to its home base (CGAS Kodiak).

I used to see these great planes almost daily while living on Kodiak Island for 32 years. They performed many diffficult SAR missions supporting the helos from CG Air Station Kodiak.

(Wave) I'm thinking you were (or perhaps still are) a Coastie. My son was in the CG for 9 years. Was stationed way up at Neah Bay and also at Astoria. I have another snap of this USCG Herc that you may like. E/M me at [email protected] and I'll send it to you, sir. Ned ... that's super that you lived right there to see them. @ masonite -- One person who gave this less than a 5 was the FA screener. I'm told by another FA employee that the person who was doing screener duties when I posted this knows very little about aviation (the person is not certified as a pilot and has never worked around aircraft), has never posted a photo in this gallery, and has little knowledge of photography; thus, that screener gives "stars" to all kinds of pics including fakes, stolen, etc., because the person can do so anonymously. I find it funny because that screener is terrified of revealing their identity.
Another who gave it less than a 5 lives in this area and takes aviation pics but is not a serious devotee of aviation photography. But to be totally serious, the "star rating" that people give is not at all important. Giving "stars" is like giving a smiley face sticker to a first grader. There are contributors here who get all bent out of shape when someone gives their pic/pics a 4 or a 3, etc. They are the same people who, when they were in second grade, needed their teacher to give them some kind of paper "award" at the end of the year - like "Cleanest Desk" or "Best Clock Watcher" so their feelings weren't hurt and their self esteem didn't diminish. The true indicator of a good photo is how many times it is viewed. If some bozo posts a pic of a white speck in the sky, how many people will waste their time looking at it? If someone else posts 4 or 5 sequential pictures of the same airplane, how many people are going to view 5 pictures that are almost identical? So those pics can be there for weeks and get only four or five dozen views. And the fact that only 50 or 60 people bothered to view the pic is the truest indication of the real "value" of a photo. If someone posts pics that almost no one is viewing, who cares if it has 1 star or 3 stars or 5 stars -- NO ONE is looking at it -- and the real "purpose" of a photograph is to be LOOKED AT. So I appreciate the sentiment that caused you to ask your question, but what I truly appreciate is that in only 7 days, you and 2,671 other people viewed my photo. I am very grateful to you, masonite, and to the 2,671 other viewers, INCLUDING those who gave it "less than five," for viewing my photo. Thank You. (Thumbs Up)

AW Gman!!!! LOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL..!! nicely torched and well stated. Also since Im too lazy to look it up, is the 'Long Range Surveillance" meaning how long they ca fly, or long range looking left or right, aft of 12?
btw: The C-130J is the newest version of the C-130 Hercules and the only model still in production!!
