15-3369 — - This is another photo that I found while looking thru my old pictures, and I have no doubt that that everyone will understand why I definitely want it in my FA folder. I snapped this pic of 153369, a Boeing Vertol CH-46E Sea Knight, also referred to as a "Phrog," on Armed Forces Day in 2014. On the day I took this pic, I had no way of knowing that this Phrog would be the last one to be retired from military service and I certainly did not know that today it would be on display in the Smithsonian Institute in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The fresh coat of green paint it now wears in the Smithsonian makes it look completely different from the way it looked when I snapped it here in 2014 as it departed KRNO, but despite how it looks in this click, I am very, very pleased to have been able to get this shot of the last "active duty" Sea Knight and have it in my FA folder.br /br /To read more about 153369s "retirement" and placement into the Smithsonian Institute, click on the links below ...br /br /a rel=nofollow href=http://news.usni.org/2015/04/10/marines-bid-phrog-farewell-to-last-active-ch-46e-sea-knight-squadronhttps://news.usni.org/2015/04/10/marines-bid-phrog-farewell-to-last-active-ch-46e-sea-knight-squadron/abr /br /a rel=nofollow href=http://www.airspacemag.com/daily-planet/marine-legend-arrives-national-air-and-space-museum-180956670/https://www.airspacemag.com/daily-planet/marine-legend-arrives-national-air-and-space-museum-180956670//a

This is one of three historic US military aircraft I have had the wonderful good fortune to photograph at Reno Tahoe International. The other two were aircraft that had been involved in well-known military missions: a C-130 that participated in the failed attempt to free hostages in Iran and a Blackhawk that participated in the mission memorialized in the movie "Blackhawk Down." Even tho it was here long afterwards, the Blackhawk still bore the many, many "scars" of the enemy-inflicted "battle wounds" it suffered during its mission. However, this old "Phrog" is, to the best of my knowledge, the only aircraft I ever photographed that later ended up in the Smithsonian.

I spoke to the-46 Phroag crew HMM -364 at fleet week in San francisco atop the anphibous carrier docked at pier 32. They told me that the ch-46 was more capable than the Vs-22 Osprey sitting close by, It was said they could lift more Combat loaded troops further,Unrefueled to the LZ . The operable word being Unrefuled. Not bad for a mid 60,s Vietnam design ..

Many teeth shaking hours in a Phrog.

Flew many missions out of Danang carrying me and my K-9 all over I Corps. A few tears here. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

Cliff & Greg .... I always greatly appreciate your comments and support, guys. (Wave)
Ian ... Thanks for your comment. (And PS ... Your posts are also great to view. Thanks for sharing them.)
James & David ... One of the wonderful things that happen when I post my photos here on FA is that, via the comments from viewers like yourselves, I get to become acquainted with fellow vets and I get to express my gratitude to them. No matter where you served, or in which branch (Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard, or - like me - Air Force), or for how long; thank you, very sincerely, for your service to our country and its citizens.
Ned ... Many Thanks for the added insights about the Sea Knights's capabilities. Where do you "hang out" when you are over near RNO?
