Piper NE Cub (N7127P)
This is a J3C-65 Piper Cub not an NE Cub. It is based out of a hanger at Corona airport. I didn't have a chance to talk to the owner because he was already "hand propping" it when I got there. The day that I took this was the second hottest of the Summer so far with temps around 105 degrees. I took it around 9am, but it was already pretty hot so most of the pictures of this one on the ground were pretty distorted.

This is the first photo of this aircraft to be uploaded to the FA gallery and also my first uploaded photo of a Cub. I have recently started flying Cubs and I must say it is the most fun I have ever had in an airplane. I was waiting to see one in action to get some snaps of, otherwise I was going to upload one of the one I fly, but of course it is stationary in my photos of it and not very interesting, but my luck was in as I was there to see this one takeoff.
Nice photo Mark, it's also nice to read some background information about the plane and the conditions the photo was taken.
It's also refreshing to read a 100% accurate factory designation of the plane.
I see that this plane has a disc brake and wheel conversion from the old expander tube brakes.

Thank you for the comment Jim, very much appreciated. I like to add as much background as I can about the a/c because I feel the photo isn't complete without it... especially on more unique aircraft like this. I was originally going to add to my comment a few of the conversions/modifications like you mentioned, and since you brought it up I will point out a couple others. The most obvious when I pulled up was that this Cub has a metal prop as opposed to the original wooden one (you can tell by the grayish color in the photo, but it is a little hard to tell). Also, I "spot" with a handheld scanner and he was making position reports so he does have a radio, I'm guessing it is just a mounted handheld radio like in the Cub I fly. Like I said, I didn't have a chance to talk with him so those are the only ones I could tell from far away.
No Jim that's not me. There is someone at the flight school I rent from who makes videos in the Cub.

From your description it looks like those are the videos you are talking about. That is the flight school's Cub and the one I fly, just not my videos.

Usually the flight school posts a link on their facebook page to his youtube video when he gets a new one up, but he hasn't posted anything lately... too bad because they are great videos and I really enjoyed watching them.
Superb, Mark. Crystal sharp!! *****!!! (Two thumbs up)
Thank you very much Gary :)
Excellent Photography Mark!
Thank you Roy!
Nicely done, and I'm insanely jealous.
Outstanding capture, Mark!
There plenty of these where I live, but I was never able to get a good shot of one.
Dwight and Todd- Thank you both :)
Nice picture, love the back ground story, wish more would do that. I'm a former Corona pilot for 6 years, now based at Chino.
Fholbert, thank you very much for the comment. I love Chino airport because of how many older aircraft are based their. I also fly with Dubois Aviation out of CNO on a regular basis too in addition to flying out of Corona.
Thanks for this. My father washed out of pilot training in 1944 on a J-3 and I'm not too proud to admit it, at least he tried, and eventually served as a gunner/observer on B-29 in Guam. Would love to take on a J-3 and vindicate his legacy!
Thank you John. I would first like to thank your father for his service and tell you that you should definitely fly one of these if you get the chance, it will be well worth it :)
