Happy Birthday Boeing Stratoliner

提交时间:

"It was introduced 75 years ago, and only 10 were built. Hollywood movie producer and aviation pioneer Howard Hughes bought one of them. But Boeing’s Stratoliner changed commercial aviation. For the first time, passengers could “fly above the weather” at high altitudes because of the airplane’s pressurized cabin." (www.boeing.com) 更多...

That particular airplane was owned around early 50s by a small Ecuadorian airline called AREA which flew it from Miami to South America. Was not a success story, unfortunately.

Tom.....two odd things: the whole time I was flying missions into NVN, the Hanoi TACAN was rarely shut down.......and yes those old birds were in/out of Hanoi daily!!

I think I caught a glimpse of a spiral staircase in the video. Isn't this the much later Stratocruiser? The 'liner wasn't double-decker, I don't think.

What a beautiful best she was. I was fortunate to see the Stratoliner at the Pima air museum in Tucson.

Most of this video contains stock footage of the much later B377 Stratocruiser. Clearly, the people making these programs don't know much about the subject and the planes. While their aim is to promote current products such as the Dreamliner, they could do a much better job to present accurate and factual historic reprentations.

Or maybe they didn't have footage of an actual Stratoliner and went with what they had knowing the average viewer wouldn't know the difference? Since it's on Boeing's website, I doubt there's a lack of knowledge "about the subject and the planes".
