KLM to stop flying 747 aircraft to Houston

提交时间:

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is swapping the iconic Boeing 747 for the newer, more efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner on its Houston-Amsterdam route. The final 747 flight from Bush Intercontinental Airport is scheduled to depart Friday at 4:35 p.m., according to FlightAware. (www.houstonchronicle.com) 更多...

I think there is a chance the 747 will be around for several decades due to it's capability in air freight. The A380 has little chance of air freight applications due to the small production number and the resulting high cost. I couldn't put it in the same category as the DC-3 for longevity, but you never know. Parts availability is a big advantage.

UPS just ordered 14 more on top of the 14 already on the books. Plus Atlas Air has quite a number of 747's for cargo & charter ops. As the -400's approach the end of their useful lives, there's a pretty good chance -800's will take their places.

No. The 400's are replaced by 777X's, 787-10's, A350's. 4 engines are just too much for the airlines.

Same thing happened to San Francisco, CA... So sad.

I remember seeing that flight depart on a hot summer's day. It would rotate at the end of 15L, go out over the gulf to turn around, and then come back over the airport still at around 2000' on its way to Amsterdam. I can only imagine that the 787 should do much better than that.

Ok How does the Dreamliner compare to the A380 800 -- don't see that many Dreamliners around however Hong Kong - New Zealand - Australia lots of A380's - 800 moving around - the only criticism I have of the A380 is there are definitely no where near enough toilets on long haul. The two aft of me were is such a disgusting state the staff closed them.

Sad to see this. This was THE aircraft for decades. Watched BA's 747 land in PHX recently and realized this won't be happening much longer. Hope the 800 can carry the torch well into the future. These are beautiful aircraft.
