VIDEO: China Airlines Touches Down In Grass at O'Hare

提交时间:

On June 21, 2018 a China Airlines cargo flight, CI5148, performed a go-around after touching down in the grass during an attempted landing on runway 10L at Chicago-O'Hare International Airport. Weather at the time of the incident included light rain, with 500 foot ceilings and visibility of three statute miles. I don't get it either. Following China Airlines' deviation the runway was closed for approximately 50 minutes, as a runway inspection identified debris that needed to be… (www.youtube.com) 更多...

500 feet/three miles, and the localizer was that far off that they landed on grass, not concrete. I think I know how far off to one side the localizer needle must have been at landing, yet who was noticing it at the time? I call that landing a fully oblivious landing attempt. Do you think these pilots ought to be allowed another landing attempt anywhere in the USA? I also think the CHina aIRLINE PILOTS ought to be inspected individually for competency to fly and land in our airspace, and not until they have passed do they get to come here.

Egads - why do they talk SO fast? How does anyone understand, much less absorb the instructions?

China airlines has a strict policy of not lighting up a smoke in the cockpit when landing under ILS conditions. This is what happens when pilots don’t follow policy.

there is a localizer and ils on each of o'hare's runways, so this can only happen when the pilots don't use the available equipment. The current conditions were instrument landing conditions and this is an unusual outcome, given 500 feet and three miles. What was going on in that cockpit???

Sounds so similar to the Korean SFO crash. Bet the problem lay in the cockpit. Copy and paste the Korean NTSB report....

The incident with Air Canada lined up for landing on the taxiway at SFO is somewhat understandable especially at night. But here in daylight and 3 miles visibility, these guys seem to be lacking in training to put it in a nice way.
We live 3nm from the airport at Clark (CRK) in the Philippines. Air China is over here once or twice every month shooting touch and go training flights. I guess they must be putting a lot of new, low hour crews in the air around the world these days. Not good and they are just accidents waiting to happen. Guess I had better not say any more...

Note that China Airlines and Air China are two separate airlines. Which one are you talking about?

Wow - looks like that was very close to turning out really badly.
