At least 35 injured from turbulence on Air Canada flight

提交时间:

An Air Canada flight travelling from Toronto to Sydney, Australia, with a scheduled stop in Vancouver, encountered sudden and severe turbulence Thursday, leaving at least 35 passengers with minor injuries, the airline said. Flight AC33 was diverted to Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport around 6:46 a.m. local time, where medical staff were on standby to examine the injured. Initially 25 people were reported hurt, but after medical staff examined those on board, Air Canada… (www.cbc.ca) 更多...

Shows once more why you should buckle up when seated. Some people just don’t get it.

Folks, there is a reason most of the guys like me directly behind the forward wind screen might loosen, but don't take off the five point harness. If we can't see it comin, how could you! buckle up.

There is a good reason not to remove the 5 point harness. Remember British Airways 5390. Glad that everyone on board was safe and sound after landing. Yes the captain sustained injuries but he as well as the co pilot did what most of use would never survive. Buckle that seat belt and keep it buckled from gate to gate unless your using the washroom.

AIR CANADA as part of the pre-departure advise the passengers to keep their seat belts fastened at all times. Unfortunately some souls don't need this warning and are severely injured. Thank goodness Hawaii is for the trans Australia flights. Special thanks for their emergency services.

Then they should have the “seat belt sign” on AT ALL TIMES !!!

The problem with the seat belt sign on is that you are not supposed to use the washrooms during that time. So it’s not realistic to leave it on at all times, and that’s why you get the verbal recommendation to use them while in your seat.

Passengers don't wear 5 point safety harness. This was AIR CANADA that got slammed not BA 5390 that no one I am sure in this hemisphere don't know of it. Keep it relevant Mr. Baker practice what you preach. I said the same thing being an argumentative person you slammed me for saying the same thing about AC33.Use the washroom before you board makes sense if you can squeeze a nervous toilet run before flight.

That's just and utterly stupid. Most people fortunately have hear you jabber away about your heroes tails and they don't wear 5 point harness.

What a load of elitist crap. Folks there's a reason I'm up front in my five point harness. I'm a pilot and a heroes. I tell a lot of stories based on hanger flying which is no more than BS. People please wake up. I doubt he can fly a Taylorcraft. These stories just get to unbelieveable. I know guys with 20,000 that would put this story teller to shame.

Should be like in a car. Click it or ticket it. Could save your life sometime.

And could prevent injury to passengers who do wear their seatbelts.

So you want a cop to patrol up an down the aisle writing tickets for people who aren't wearing their seatbelt? What about the cop's safety?

It's the law, punishable by fines (and demerit points in some jurisdictions) to wear a seatbelt in a car, yet many people still don't/won't do it. Making it mandatory in a plane won't result in full compliance either. And what are they supposed to do, divert to an en route airport and have the offenders dragged off the plane and fined?

You can't fix stupid.

Airlines are early and important customers for new and emerging spot weather reporting efforts.

Google "clear air turbulence". Not everything is visible on radar.

I agree one should buckle up always but my son tells me they were about to serve a meal, people relaxed and it is a long flight with two enfants. There was no seat belt warning or announcement, that is why so many people were caught by surprise. He has a hematoma in his mid back and crashed the plastic above his seat with his head. The 6 month old baby seems ok as well as the two year old. They flew up too. The neck and elbow of my daughter-in-law hurt and they are not even among the 37 with minor injuries. I know Air Canada will do nothing for them should they need physiotherapy when they get home to Sydney. It was very unfortunate but air canada should know better and take responsibility. Even their own flight attendants got hurt.

They should take responsibility for what? The unstable air they flew through? The fact that people choose not to have their belts fastened? I always have mine on. Even if it's all the way loose, at least there's something to help keep me in my seat if needed.

I'm not a big fan of Air Canada, but it's ridiculous to blame the airline for turbulence. It's not like they deliberately flew into the eyewall of a hurricane. "Clear air turbulence" is a very good description of, well, clear air turbulence. By definition, it happens in clear air and can't be seen, but if you hit it, you sure know about it.

Airlines can't enforce mandatory use of seatbelts unless you're prepared for every single flight to be diverted, probably more than once, to have offenders dragged off the plane. Every airline flight I've ever been on included the recommendation to keep your seatbelt on at all times unless you have a reason to leave your seat. It's good advice and I've always followed it. I've also flown in a wide variety of military aircraft, including fighters, so it would feel odd to me not to wear a seatbelt anyway.

I hope your family recover quickly with no lasting effects, but it was their own decision to unbuckle their seatbelts, not the airline's fault.

You want Air Canada to stand responsible for an act of nature that was sudden and unpredictable ? Give your head a shake .I am sure you will be advising your son to sue to the ceiling .Please clarify what and why Air Canada should "know better ".
