FAA says new Boeing production problem found in undelivered 787 Dreamliners

提交时间:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said late on Monday that some undelivered Boeing 787 Dreamliners have a new manufacturing quality issue that the largest U.S. planemaker will fix before the planes will be delivered. The FAA said the issue is "near the nose on certain 787 Dreamliners in the company's inventory of undelivered airplanes. This issue was discovered as part of the ongoing system-wide inspection of Boeing's 787 shimming processes required by the FAA." The… (www.yahoo.com) 更多...

Be real folks, the FAA’s words not mine, “…no immediate threat to flight safety” Am I the only one on the net that has had a recall notice from thier automobile manufacturer?

You should be thrilled they are taking care of this prior to delivery. That means the checks and balances system is working.

There have been plenty of previous reports, about troubles with shim thickness at the flanges of 787 barrels.

Shim issues have brought extreme focus on the flanges, basically shutting down 787 deliveries. This Yahoo article states that shim problems have also been observed at some forward, cockpit area flange joints.

That's not a huge surprise. The earliest issues concerned the rearmost barrel flanges of the 787, that have rather high design loads, associated with the rear control surfaces.

IMHO Boeing has never been the same since Alan Mulally left. He was hired by Boeing immediately out of college in 1969 as an engineer. Worked his way to the top, got passed over for CEO in '05, was insulted, went to Ford and turned it around so well Ford didn't a bailout in '08.

Finance guys took the company over and damaged the brand so badly they may never recover. 5 will get you 10 they go back to Boeing WWII logo.

Just how I see it flying my desk.

You could probably shorten that to McDonnell.
They did the same to Douglas

Actually he could probably shorten that to just nothing because we've all heard it about 10 million times.

I'm riding two horses at once. I used to work FAA Hq in Washington years ago, and I also worked at Boeing in EDP later on. At that time both were admired for being on the ball. I wrote programs showing manpower needs for various towers around the country, and they worked at the time. Wonder if my stuff is still running all these years later?

Coming out of the South Carolina plant I’m not surprised. There are drug problems there with some of their employees, that hets over looked or given a pass. Mostly marijuana stuff but still.

Did the article specify the South Carolina plant? I may have missed that.

But Boeing is a wonderful example of a company with a great product made by great workers then screwing up the whole thing by obtaining cheaper labor, both in SC for their plant and using software engineers in India for the code of the 737Max.
MarcusGiddens
SC is the only plant building 78's I believe. I actually live in Charleston and a new KLM 787 flew right over me a few minutes ago, I ducked....;-)

Hey genius - Boeing only makes the FUSELAGES in SC and then ships them via train to SEATTLE to be FINISHED. There are ZERO moving parts installed in SC.

Be careful who you call out. Your post is full of mis-statements, here are a few.

1)Boeing does indeed make 787 fuselages in Charleston and in other worldwide plants for that matter. They formerly shipped 787 barrels (21 foot diameter) to Everett WA by modified 747 Dreamlifter aircraft. 2) Boeing only ships 737 fuselages by train, the 12-foot diameter bodies fit on a train car. 3) 21 foot diameter 787 barrels WILL NEVER BE train shippable, they're too wide and wouldnt pass train trestles not to mention dual track conditions. 4) Landing gear and GE engines get installed onto 787s at Charleston. Guess they count as moving parts. Still sayin Hey genius now ??

...i dunno, if a part moves from point A to point B, is it a moving part...?

Normal issues with any manufacturer. This sounds like Boeing bashing by media. If problems are found and fixed before delivery, why make it a big deal?

I can imagine Boeing management be like "Let's save money and don't bother with quality control. If there's any problem, the FAA will catch it, they'll tell us it and we'll fix it. If the FAA misses it... then who cares...? HAHAHA" *hysterical laughter in the boardroom*

Oh, the joys of sacrificing safety and quality in order to increase profits!

Ignorant much ? IF they keep finding these issues , how many will NOT be found adn eventually cause another disaster? You must be pretty dense. Boeing is crap and it has been showing.

Not surprising, it’s Boeing. GUESS WHAT?! AIRBUS IS NOT HAVING THESE PROBLEMS. MAYBE WE SHOULD BE LOOKING AT THEM, HMM?!

A little research goes a long way! Very recently there are discoveries of A380 Wing Cracks (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-airbus-a380/inspections-ordered-on-some-airbus-a380s-after-wing-cracks-found-idUSKCN1U415E) and Airbus AOA Sensors (https://www.flightglobal.com/analysis/analysis-how-airbus-fought-its-own-pitch-battle/132358.article)
