I would suggest that the P&W GTF issues with the a220 should, at least, negate their ETOPS authorization for obvious reasons.

Engine reliability was a crucial part of ETOPS in its original concept and implementation and seems to be non existent in its current approval form!

Now what's wrong with these white elephants? You would figure an engine manufacture should have the bugs worked out after almost 8 years

They are using a very complex process to make some of the components and if any contamination gets into it the component’s integrity is compromised. In the case of these engines it has led to cracking of the component so P&W are being proactive in finding and replacing the faulty components befor they have an engine failure.

Yes I know all too well about the processes involved and the steps taken to negate any issues. And that is the whole point. These engines have been having issues for almost 8 years, some small, some to be expected early on, and some not so small. 8+ years of processes that were inspected for tolerances etc, and if faulty, to be caught, prior to them being assembled, prior to components even leaving their assembly line, prior to software going online.

If we built the turboprops the way they are building these, we'd have had our butts kicked before they even left the floor.

One of their suppliers of parts used slightly contaminated metal forcing them to do in-depth inspections more frequently. Pratt is also dealing with supply chain shortages stemming from covid so the replacement engines are slow to be made.
