Ex-Kalitta 727s, flying again
Kalitta Charters II’s once retired 727s take to the sky again. Unfortunately for the aviation lovers who were used to once seeing them, they won’t be gracing the skys of North America however. Over the last 5 months, since May, The Michigan based cargo carrier has sold off 3 of its retired and stored cargo configured Boeing 727-200 aircraft to an undisclosed African cargo carrier. They sure could get off the runway quickly. They also were the first to land and take off from the higher elevation runways, as I recall. Good little plane, but it's got to be ending the end of it's safe service life.
Where do a TON of used American airliners and jets go to live another short life before they die? South America and Africa! I’m just glad in the world-wide aviation community that we all are commuted to at least 2 of the R’s we learned as kids: Reuse and Recycling ♻️
Kalitta used to operate 727s out of our airport several years ago flying late evening freight. Loved that. I could always identify them flying overhead on departure five miles north of the airport. Noisy!! Despite the hush kits. Not a problem for me!
Always liked seeing the Kalitta 727's and DC9's when I worked at SDF.
Amazing...to observe the inside of big time flying
