I believe the plane was owned by Mark Benjamin - Morley Builders. http://www.morleybuilders.com/ as that address in Malibu is listed under Mark Benjamin Trust and that family had a long presence in Hailey, Idaho community. We'll just have to wait and see.

We are aware of a plane crash at Santa Monica Airport last night. While we do not have specific facts, we believe that our President and CEO, Mark Benjamin, and his son, Luke Benjamin, a Senior Project Engineer with us were on board.

We are unable to issue a further statement at this time. We will provide you with more updates as soon as we learn of them. Thank you.

I think you could be correct. If so this would not be the first Cessna owned by Mark Benjamin destroyed in a crash. A Cessna 421C was severely damaged in a crash in 2002 in Hailey Idaho:

According to an eyewitness employed at the airport a tire burst after landing, causing the plane to veer off. Local news reports that sadly there were no survivors.

How can I find if there has been a report filed on this yet. NTSB web site doesn't list anything before 2012 and google isn't much help

NTSB reports and probable causes generally take a year or more. What information are you looking for? The preliminary information is here: http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief.aspx?ev_id=20130930X32148&key=1

You can contact the NTSB in about 8 months from now and ask when the hearing for case #WPR13FA430, when final report is estimated to be released it will appear here; http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/InvestRel.aspx.

In the case of N194SJ - it appears everything was normal right up until the touchdown - cockpit voice recorder was recovered, so my guess this accident report will take from 14 months to 18 months from the day of the accident.

Just a note; accident CJ525 N102PT - far more complex investigation - but it was a little over 3 years to release the Final Report;

Not the longest runway in the world but if there were only the son, the father and the girlfriend of the son that are known to have been on the plane the forth could have been the pilot....no one knows yet.....I've known of some pretty big and fast planes landing on comparable runways....There is an Eclispe crew that lands on a runway at an airport outside of CLT that is only about 3500 ft in length.....all signs point to the blown tire and the fact that they landed behind a lear....I am thinking they or he got behind the plane trying to figure out what the lear was doing and landed hot all while knowing that they only had so much usable runway and slammed it down to get the full length.

A Private Pilot rated in a twin engine jet!! Pilot Error, the FAA needs to stop this non-sense, and make any VLJ type rating at least a Commercial certificate with at least 500 hours PIC Jet! Or hire a professional pilot to fly the jet. I have flown as instructor pilot with several low time Private Pilots rated in the VLJ,(CJ, EMB-500, 505), very scary! RIP!
andrewstagg

An applicant for a CE-525S type rating must fly to ATP standards during the check ride regardless if they hold a Private, Commercial or ATP certificate. Are you advocating that during the type rating check ride they should demonstrate chandelles, lazy eights, eights on pylons and power-off 180's?

When I was a corp pax, our MU-2 ALWAYS had a commercial rated pilot, and a high hour right seat. ALWAYS! One of my customers recently met me in their Citation Mustang - I was amazed to see just one pilot. None of my business, didn't ask rating or anything (They were coming in for a meeting and leaving without me) - but that that kind of horse-power is certified for single pilot???? Not getting this boy on that...

I have seen it way to many times, I'm sorry. I'm an ATP pilot, 13,000+ hours, 14 pure jet types, Current in the B737 and GIV. Both the EMB products have the Garman 1000, with XM- Radio, and these guys are listing to Elton John while taxing out in PHX. NUTS!!
