Heavy lift (freight) and Government service are the only markets the 747 still has. UPS has probably put off the inevitable by 2-3 years.

They also have options for another 14. Makes sense since they already have many '47's in their fleet. I think FedEx sold all the Tiger '47's (along with the DC-8's) to them but those were less well maintained and fuel guzzlers.

I wonder if Boeing will reverse their planned slow down of the -8 production of 0.5 aircraft per month?

I flew back from Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm on an ex-Flying Tigers 747 w/FedEx decals placed on it. We were delayed 12 hours from the original departure time due to mechanical issues. We were in formation waiting for the bus to take us to the airhead when we got word of the delay.. Could have cared less if it were a beat up DC-3 so long as we were leaving. Wish I had recorded that tail number as well as the C-141 that I flew on into country.

Anyone know if Boeing has stated to build the new AF1's as yet? They will take years to complete after delivered to Air Force for retrofit, but general airframe ahould have a production slot soon.

The last I heard, last week, its still in planning.

It will probably be just a plane white aircraft and flown away immediately for security reasons.

The current ones sat in Everett with Official Presidential paint for months when they were built. I remember driving by them often when I was in High school.

Wonderful news. The 747 is the greatest of them all!

I wish they could make the passenger version a twin to keep it competitive, just for the sheer beauty of the airframe. Nothing looks like the Queen of the Skys.

Great aircraft. Still Queen of the Skies vs the ugly duckling beluga whale looking A-380.
