Wayne, I thought it might be one of your cohorts on an RON with nothing to do but mess with you. But, as you said she is only under one of your posts. No fun going on here, just another fool I guess.

I guess a different era what with fault liabilty % assigned and all, but unless I missed something or it was left out of the article, I fail to see where TWA had any liability at all. United overshot their hold point by 12 miles and ATC let them do it. To me, that would have been crucial in that airspace and the same ATC, and probably controller, put the TWA there. Sounds like an earlier version of SWA and the Lear at Midway this past week, except they were on the ground. Result could have been about the same though.

I was one of the controllers involved with this crash. I spent many miserable hours at the Civil Aeronautics Board hearings in Brooklyn January 1961. Interesting reading at Dept of Transportaion web site. http://ntl1.specialcollection.net/scripts/ws.dll?websearch&site=dot_aircraftacc

I can't get comfortable in airliners. Like the stall/mush into the ocean those things will happen.

I remember this. I was in the ninth grade at the time. I remember watching this on the news.

I was 12 years old and living in Bronx, NY (a few miles away) when this accident happened. Correct me if I am wrong, but, I believe one cause of the accident was a passenger listening to a local FM radio station during the descent. This caused interference with the aircraft's avionics which, to this day, we are required to turn off all electronic devices prior to take-off and landing.
