I think the only place a drone has a place is on the battle field

Police don't need drones! They are cops not soldiers or spies.

Cops carry weapons mostly for their protection, not yours. Where does the drone fit in with the mission of the police? "TO PROTECT AND SERVE". Hell, why not just get 'em some F15s.

I am against drones flying over populated areas in America. They might have applications in search & rescue and wild fire control. Armed drones, absolutely not!

Should it happen? Probably not. Has it happened or is it happening as we speak? Probably so.

Drones should not be flying over the United States.

Agree. Would be just like getting a wire tap with no oversight. It will wind up being used for other than the original purpose. It is a military weapon.

And the move towards a police state marches on.

A drone would be a logical extension to current means of law enforcement. Helicopters, planes, traffic cams, and a patrolman on the corner. However, it need not, and should not be armed, with the possible exception of border control.
RRKen
Allow me to add, current court cases have upheld the use of cameras, air planes, helicopters, and even patrolmen on the corner for law enforcement. The courts have found there is no expectation of privacy in any of those modes of observance.

I'm not comfortable with police using drones in the first place. But in no way do local or county police need armed drones. We've proven in war zones that the best equipment flown by the best operators can still cause inadvertent or collateral damage. It's not a risk we need to run here.

Ditch the drones and the right to own firearms in the US and it will be a whole lot safer. In China where I live, it is illegal to own any weapons without a special paper and the crime and death rate is way lower. People don't need metal detectors at school and we can sleep in peace. That amendment was one of the what I think was a more stupid part of the constitution...

Although, drones along the borders would be a great invention, if they aren't in use now, they can provide helpful insight to the border patrol officers.

Not much point. When they catch illegals they do nothing to them. A 6 month stretch in joe' s desert prison might keep them from trying again.

I don't think drones should be armed, but I see little practical difference between drones and rotary or fixed wing aircraft used for observation, SAR and similar duties.

Every little tiny town has a swat team, my county has an amphibious assault vehicle (only a few small lakes, couple of small rivers) now we need armed drones?? Where and when does it stop?? The terrorists have won!

I'm fine with the drones, and fine with arming them as long as their use has very strict rules of engagement (and reules of employment).

Yes !
With 488 people shot since Jan 1st --then add on the holiday shooting fest of over 30 shot - ten killed - wow..no wonder they needed the reaper in the west and south sides. Clear for take off sir !

Ok Daley - pour more concrete at ORD !
Maybe we can increase the tourists levels this way....with more r/ways.....
RRKen
Sad to say that is happening in my old home town. Drones can help locate criminals faster at times than a beat officer, especially in the urban jungles like the South side. I must however repeat, they need not, and should not be armed.

Now that has to be the lamest argument against the second amendment I have ever heard. "we need to be like china". Their government is just so good to the citizens.

I only live in China, but it is a hell lot safer.

I don't think so. When a couple guys twice your side want to club you and borrow from you, what you gonna do? Call the government? I know they are so responsive. In reality the second amendment was put in place to protect you from the government. You are certainly a follower and have a lot of faith in in your leadership. Good luck!!

P. S. I don't totally trust the US gov. So you can guess what I think of the Chinese gov!!! Why are there so many Chinese here and trying to get here? Why leave utopia?

I am not totally for the Chinese government or policies. Overall, I support the majority of America's principles. I just think every household owning a gun is a bit extreme. Besides, in America if a couple of guys wanted to borrow from you, they could just as easily shoot you.

Maybe I should have just kept my comments about firearms away from flight aware, since this is about drones, not Chinese law.

We can let it drop as a difference of beliefs. But one gun per household is not nearly enough. Lol

NO... With some of the officers I have seen. I have the utmost respect for them, but putting a remote control a/c with fire arms... I do not like that idea... Cameras yes, guns NO. What will they want next, Kamikaze RC!
