Lufthansa and South African Airways Planes Nearly Collide at Johannesburg Airport
A Lufthansa Boeing 747 almost collided with a South African Airways (SAA) Airbus A320 at Johannesburg O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) on February 23. The Lufthansa plane, flying under flight number LH 573 to Frankfurt, was starting to take off from runway 03L when SAA flight SA 422 crossed the runway. It appears that this "news" story was taken entirely from some Twitter threads. There's nothing wrong with getting alerted with breaking news tweets but you have to take those with a grain of salt because they often get key details wrong and indeed sometimes the entire story is wrong. If you're a news website with "reporters" then get on the damn phone and use your contacts to get some authoritative information.
LH decided not to takeoff after lining up the first time, so the controller told them to taxi along the runway so they could loop back for another go. The SA A320 was cleared to cross as they were some distance apart and both doing taxi speeds. Nothing to report here. If you can't get info directly from the sources, at least use some kind of back up source to confirm your story? Maybe match the LiveATC audio to paint a better picture?
