It is good it has been found. It may just be manner of speaking and they should be together but the need to be reminded that there are 2 separate and distinct recorders, both the FDR and CVR.

So in a little while all the speculation and hoo-haw can be put to rest. Don't know about you, preacher1, but I'm more than ready for it...

Yeah, my money is still on a high powered updraft and slamdown though, based on how it is kinda all together or close, indicating no real breakup until it hit the water. That's just my feeling, so we'll see. I hate that so many people are dead but I am glad it has been found and not be a total disappearance like MAS370.

While I bet you are correct. I also bet that the actions of the people at the pointy end of the aircraft did not respond with what would be considered the proper reactions (duh). It will be something that for years some of the TV stations can say "if the pilots only would have..." Then, we can all play arm chair quarter back and claim what we would have done (and why if they were in a Boeing with conjoined controls the crash would not have taken place. No way I call this one an accident yet.

preacher1 1
You may be entirely correct but one big thing to look at is if the aircraft would have done what it needed to do to break out of whatever had it, and I'm not speaking of Boeing against Airbus.

I guess you are referring to the Cockpit Voice Recorder(CVR)!
c4net
No, he spoke correctly. FDR is the one we need, for a lot of reasons

From multiple news sources the FDR has been recovered and CVR has been located, but not yet recovered.

preacher1 2
In this particular case, I think the CVR will tell us more than normal, and verified by the FDR.
preacher1
preacher1 3
I also think that while it is good that the FDR has been recovered, it will only give a technical readout of what the plane was doing, and conclusions will be drawn from that. In this case, I believe the CVR will give us the best and quickest version of what actually happened, to be confirmed by the FDR.

FDR will provide the most important info of exact what the acft was doing; the CVR will provide cockpit vocals of what pilots were trying to do. You have it backward, cockpit sounds will validate what the FDR is reporting & occurring with the plane.
preacher1
preacher1 1
No, I know very well what they do and in this particular case, the CVR will be telling as I am like SMOKI here below, that there was an upset from which they could not recover and the CVR will show pilot action during that time, to be backed up by the FDR. Don't get me wrong, they are both needed but I believe human reaction will be mot important here.

Will they ever stop calling these things "black boxes" when they are and have forevermore been painted "international orange" for their conspicuity even when appearing in photographs accompanying the report. It's likely that the FDR will show an upset and loss of control probably caused by convective activity in the area as reported previously. If the airplane then tumbled out of control while descending into the heart of the beast, a TSTM with accompanying severe turbulence, the airframe could have been subjected to structural overstress forces making recovery from the upset impossible.

Time to start a new squawk thread.

um....it was reported that only the flight data recorder was found, that the CVR was still missing

"The transport ministry has suspended the carrier's Surabaya-Singapore license for flying on a Sunday, for which it did not have permission. However, the ministry has said this had no bearing on the crash of Flight QZ8501.President Joko Widodo said the crash exposed widespread problems in the management of air travel in Indonesia." I personally don't think there is a problem here. It seems that the folks doing the work know what's going on. It seems to be the bureaucrats that are behind, trying to cover their butts, and looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Typical government.

Everybody likens this to Airbus and the Pitot problem. I guess that no one is old enough to remember Southern 242 from Huntsville to Atlanta. No Pitot problem. Both engines quit after injestion and damage from water and hail. Pilot almost made it down clean onto a highway, except for a utility pole and a gas station.

Larry, you expect somebody to remember a happening from 35-40 years ago when a lot do good to remember yesterday. LOL. I personally think that whatever caught up this flight was bad enough that it would not have mattered whether it was Airbus or Boeing. That will probably be a source of contention for a long time but so be it.

Why is it that so many air crashes have ocurred lately in Asia?

I hope this can now be solved quickly! At least the investigation is occurring faster the the Malaysian flight!

I hope for all the families invoked who lost a loved one, that it will be a fast recovery!

I'm just curious.....how was it possible that the "black boxes" came dislodged from the tail section?
joelwiley
joel wiley 2
From the pics I saw, the 'tail section' appeared to consist of vertical stabilizer and the floor section of the rear. The upper part of the fuselage separated from that, and the CVR/FDR may have gone with it.
avihais
Looking at the photos the tail section was ripped from the rest of the aeroplane and torn open one side relatively together (respectively) the rest in pieces.

Sudden climb to FL380 then a sudden drop down apparently at a very high rate of descend looks as if we are facing another A/447 in that the pitot tube floze and they lost all signals is the cockpit panel.

Derek I couldn't agree more-seems Air Asia's "recovery"teams are WAY MORE put together than MH370 ever was, meaning the plane was found in a more reasonable amount of time and location.

WHEN is the pea-brained media going to stop using the term "black boxes"????? Are they too lazy to call them WHAT they really are? Can they not SEE they are orange???
TomController

If it weren't for the 'pea brain' public calling them black boxes the change might occur but public being public they will never change.

The "pea brain public" didn't make up the term all by itself.

Wanna bet? Included in that 'pea brain public are the media!! Public all think they are knowledgeable in aviation but truth be told large majority are neophytes.

Is true that a change of altitude was refused by tower control?

Roger & out
TomController
Tom Wright 1
Roger, tower control!! Towers were not controlling that aircraft, please learn the ATC heirachy.

Towers normally control 7nm radius of airport up to about 3,000' above airport elevation!! The minute the wheels liftoff the runway, an IFR acft is controlled by the Air Traffic Control Centre, NOT the Tower. At some point in the flight like this one, control of the acft is transferred to the next ATC Centre, etc..

Yes, ATC refused clearance for altitude change based on traffic. However there are procedures the crew could have followed because they can over-rule ATC if the acft's safety is in jeopardy. They could have rerouted around those conditions at the assigned Flt LVL.

My guess they waited too long to request and when they did they were too close to the condition. I've seen acft go 40-60 nm before returning to route at same time I had AF decide to go in 150+nm in the opposite direction and require ATC to give him another clearance. Go figure why that one flight made that decision but thanks to radar it was easily monitored.

Yes because of traffic and only momentarily.

When you post you will see if anything similar is there. You can go ahead and post. If it is a true duplicate, it will post it at the bottom in order received. When you get a comment alert. it will generally be on the first story posted or if a similar squawk that you have looked at, it just depends on reader's fancy which story they look at. Personal opinion, you are getting way to uptight about a post time. I have but 2 things to say: EITHER POST YOUR STORY EARLIER, or, if you think there is truly an issue, CONTACT FLIGHTAWARE SUPPORT. There is absolutely nothing we can do and most on here are getting tired of your whining, especially after having been told this before. Deal with it!!!

Indonesia AirAsia QZ8501 blackboxes found

"Indonesian divers Sunday found the black box of the AirAsia plane which crashed in the Java Sea but they failed to retrieve it because it was stuck under debris from the main body of the plane"

Air Asia QZ8501 Black Box Found

The black box is currently wedged between pieces of wreckage making it difficult for divers to retrieve, and due to time constraints, retrieval will take place on Monday morning, said Mr Budiono. The search crew will attempt to retrieve the black box by moving parts of wreckage to loosen it from where it is currently stuck, and if that fails, the same balloon method used to lift the tail of the plane will be employed.
