TSA To Mull Changes To DCA GA Security Plans
Transportation Security Administration leaders are not satisfied with the lack of business aircraft operations into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and are planning to meet with stakeholders to discuss possibilities for changing the security procedures into that airport, says Brian Delauter, general manager of TSA’s General Aviation branch. At the "small summit" in July, they should address concerns around adverse publicity. Passengers may not want to use DCA because they're trying to keep a lower profile. That probably explains some of the problem, and I'm not suggesting it's a major factor in the low traffic...but it would be a mistake to hold a summit and pretend the issue wasn't on the table.
Duh....so maybe the genius that closed DCA to GA should re-evaluate this overburdensome and totally un-necessary closure? While you are at it, nobodys shoes have blown up in this country, so how about finding some illegal aliens to harass and leave business flyers alone so we can get some work done to pay for your job.
Al Beckwith : We have operated our company since 1966 and have a Kit "Bede 5" on display at the Smithsonian at Dulles Airport. My customer "pilots" have historically , up to 9/11, enjoyed flying into DCA on an IFR Flight Plan with their family and other customers pilots and even their family members. Normally these trips are on weekend; maybe fly in on Friday afternoon and leave Sunday after Lunch.
Trips to Cherry Blossom Parade was a standard back then.
These trip were designed to help our customer Pilots the procedures to fly into DCA as well as to educate those on board the value of all the museums in Washington D.C.
We sincerely miss these Educational Opportunities which also proves the value of flying a General Aviation Airplane.
Currently we operate only Cessna Single Engine Piston Aircraft ( Cessna 172; 182RG & 210 Centurion.
which are rated IFR.
We operate from Kent State University Airport in Stow, Ohio
This Program has been Part of our Educational Goal for our customers and their families.
We travel to and From Toronto, Strafford and other locations for the same purpose.
I feel that other Pilots have a similar interests.
As a long term Member of the Smithsonian ; I am interested in obtaining approval to again have approval to fly into DCA. We currently fly into Dulles and find that their procedures are acceptable .
I hope the July Summit Study will provide the relief from the current restrictions at DCA.
