No Relief for Florida Airport Impacted by Trump TFR

提交时间:

The Secret Service says aircraft flying from Lantana Airport southwest of the Mar-a-Lago resort pose a security threat when the president is in town. A compromise that AOPA had hoped to broker to keep Florida’s Lantana Airport open when President Donald Trump visits his Mar-a-Lago estate has been rejected by the Secret Service, according to two Florida politicians who have been briefed on the matter. the problem is that the "florida whitehouse" is not just visited once in a while, but almost every weekend..the penthouse in new York has required flying restrictions in that area as well, and that affects commercial traffic..the security scenario for this president is one that has not been encountered before,as previous presidents either went to camp david for a getaway,or on occasion to their ranch like bush and Reagan..the sad part is that florida is a tourist and retiree destination for many, and these security "concerns" are causing problems and issues for those who live and work (and yes, fly) in the area...

The TFR prohibits banner towing and flight training within a 30 mile radius of the PBI VOR, so allowing the Lantana airport to be open will not help those businesses. Two other airports, North County and Boca Raton are in the TFR , so they are open, but basically are restricted to departures and arrivals.
The TFR extends from just south of Stuart to just north of FLL.

Trump needs to stay in the White House. These trips Florida are costing tax payers money!!

Agreed! One weekend costs the taxpayers $3 million and on top of it Trump stops budget $4 million funding for the NEA. Can't he just stay home one weekend?

actually, they don't. POTUS is reimbursing the cost of the flights. He is also not taking the $400k per year salary. Nor is he accepting the $50k per year expense account.

Nonsense. We are not only paying for all of his junkets, but also the international travel of his family. In terms of his salary, he certainly indicated that he would not take it, but so far has not offered any definitive assurance that he will not. Until he offers proof, we can assume that the money is going into his pocket.

Oh BTW, we are also paying the costs for the SS to lease space in Trump Tower (at least that is what he tried to negotiate).

I wonder if pres. Trump knows this. I understand the ss's point but if someone were to talk to the USPOTUS I bet something could be worked out. Get your ducks lined up i.e. business % on Sat and Sun etc. He is not a gov't person he is a business man. Present it as such.

If KLNA had a security guy on the gate during TFR's and he checked everyone's ID and pilots license, that would go a long way to helping our case. I have my plane at KLNA and I see absolutely no security whatsoever. The Secret Service need to see the airport doing their part then we might have a chance to fly.

The Secret Service is the problem. They shut down everything because they can, not because it makes a difference to security.

It's give them a little power and they use it, required or not. There is, undoubtedly, a bunch of CYA in the decisions as well. I never understood that because I have never heard of any gov't worker being fired for making a mistake.

The local pilots, banner tow and flying school can be accommodated to operate from a different airport when Latana is closed. It seems they could set up a portable tower and make Latana a controlled airport during the TFR. How is PBI 1 mile away allowed to function with their arrival/departures right over Mar-A-Lago? No doubt it would help if pilots quit busting the TFR. Don't blame the president as he's possibly the first ever aircraft owner, pro general aviation president we've ever had.

Can you blame the SS. After 5 Aircraft in one day Violated the Restricted Airspace. The Leftist/Liberals are just making all the issues they can for this new President and his Staff.

Nope. President is a magnet for criticism. Always has been and always will be.
