IMHO with Cessna coming strong for the 19pax market, and ATR solid in the 50-76pax. EMB120NG is the way to go

I would be in favor of that as long as they made it big enough to stand up in the cabin.

China is making Xian MA700, which looks very much like ATR-72 and using the same engines

We don’t even use the ATR and Q400 much here in the US. Horizon keeps most near its base.

Turboprops are already much more efficient than jets on shorter flights. A model with newer technologies would just increase that gap. It’ll be a matter of convincing the flying public that it isn’t the miserable experience of yore.

Cutting back on engine and prop noise so your ears are not being traumatized by weedeater-like noise at 80db or more for an hour or two would be a huge step in the right direction.

Agree and they need more seat width and padding. The window seat is too close to the fuselage so the aisle person usually has to lean away to give more room. They're also more susceptible to air pockets so some form of turbulence smoothing would encourage me to fly on them, otherwise I look for alternatives every time.
