Actually, TWA entered a slow death spiral when Carl Ichan got involved in the 80's. It was on the rebound after the employees to over the airline in the 90's and then flight 800 went down which doomed its fledgling recovery.

Patrick, Since when does nobody getting hurt, no need to rebuild a runway, the airplene being flyable later that day or the next, or nobody noticing a rought landing make it ok TO NOT OPERATE under the FAR's? It is a big deal that an air carrier operates outside its OP Specs as reported in Yahoo Finance report (see below). "Under FAA regulations, foreign airlines operating in the U.S. must create detailed operating specifications and follow any procedures contained in them. Lufthansa's operating rights didn't permit it to fly to San Diego and Philadelphia at the time, but the FAA charges that the airline knowingly did so anyway. Foreign airlines can only conduct scheduled flights through airports that are listed in their FAA-issued Operations Specifications, and the FAA alleges neither airport was in Lufthansa's Operations Specifications+.

Robert, apparently you didn't read either this squawk or the Final Accident Reort by the Indonesian Government. "From what we know, there are nine things that contributed to this accident," Indonesian air accident investigator Nurcahyo Utomo told reporters at a news conference. If one of the nine hadn't occurred, maybe the accident wouldn't have occurred." Another quote from the Squawk: "Further, the report found that the first officer, who had performed poorly in training, struggled to run through a list of procedures that he should have had memorised. He was flying the plane just before it entered into the fatal dive, but the report said the captain had not briefed him properly when he handed over the controls as they struggled to keep the plane in the air." Your Squawk is not based upon facts from the report, but upon your personal unfounded ideas.
