@Wingrat, these BUFF's are actually quite advanced. The last round of modifications brought them out of the steam-gauge age. One of the (few) good things our Congress has done in the past few years is to continue allowing the AF to update these with new engines. The only thing really old is the actual airframe. I think I heard they are scheduled to continue being airworthy and in service through 2050.
Indeed, an amazing warbird that has FAR exceeded it's design parameters. Thankful it treated my brother so well all the 20 years he flew them.

I don't think that runway is wide enough for this crosswind landing!

Was a pax on an L-1011 between Portland and Kimpo 3 times between 1991 and 1992. Loved that bird because it always brought me home!

My brother flew these out of Minot and Barksdale. He was awesome enough to get me into the sim at both locations. I have 2 landings (and one mid-air collision with a tanker!) I could put into my logbook!

@kenkemper The pilot's number is upside down on the Lead Solo pilot. #'s 1-4 are the formation pilots, #5 is lead solo and spends most of his/her time inverted, #6 is the other Solo. #7 is a backup bird and #8 is the media bird (2 seater used to give rides).
You took an amazing photo! I've been lucky to witnessed them and the BA's perform a few times and each time this pass happens, I just gape and gaze in awe. I know they are safely apart but at the same time, they are each flying over what, 400/500 miles per hour giving a closing speed close to 1000 mph? Could any one of us mere mortals think that quickly!!! These men and women (and all the support airmen) are superstars in my book.

I have pictures of her back in the mid 80's when she was with the Confederate Air Force. She visited Ada Municipal Airport in Ada, Ok. So glad the FiFi is still aloft!

I'm quite partial to this airframe. Was stationed in ROK for a year and made 3 Pacific crossings via Delta between Kimpo and Portland. Wide-body for comfort, seems like the flight attendants were always bringing food and a smooth and quite ride. So yeah. I have to say the Tristar is my favorite passenger plane. The 747 has it's advantages and I haven't had the privilege of a 380 yet.
