Robin, that is the "message board" which now seems to be more of a display, comprised of thousands of LEDs. It used to be very simple scrolling messages several letters at a time and some crude graphics ability. I used to live in the South Bay (LA) and saw these all the time, I wonder what that display can do now!

née: Aérospatiale, Eurocopter, etc... Spent a lot of time in the AStar with the folks at LAPD Air Support Division back when the AS-350B had the Turbomeca transmission failure issue and lost a ship with 2 crew. It's amazing going on night patrol over LA, what you can see with the FLIR and how the observer and pilot work together when using it. Great aircraft, great crew!

Great shot of a busy flight deck. That's a mix of Intruders and Prowlers both.

First flight ever to LA was on People's Express to Imperial Terminal in 1980. Always remember the air steps to the tarmac and the smell of Eucalyptus trees as I arrived at night.

Cheek guns first appeared in the D variant and were manned by the Navigator fighting one side at a time

Mike, can't argue but don't forget about the P-47 "Jug", different era, same effect!

Flew literally millions of long haul miles on these BA birds all over the world from T4 and then T5. Used to love early morning arrivals at LHR so I could count how many 747 variants were on the ground. Hope their days are somehow not done. First class upgrades were always fabulous!
