Look, I feel badly for people who died...but the Boeing 737 isn't the problem....it's the training. YES, the MCAS was an issue, and YES it should have been better explained TO the pilots. I have seen the prelimanry reprt on the Ethiopian crash. THEY (pilots) allowed the airplane to overspeed. Pure. Bad. Piloting...in an overspeed situation? (I have many hours on the B-737)...you just don't let that happen.

ATC.net Likely has that recording. Los Angeles Approach frequency usually 124.9 (At least when I was flying!)....

AS I said previously. ETOPS procedures are designed specifically for twin-engine over-water operations. Consensus: ETOPS is for an engine failure on a twin-jet over-water. A fire? Well, if uncontrolled is mighty scary.

That's why we use ETOPS procedures. But yes, a fire if uncontrolled and two or more hours until a safe diversion landing? Scary....

Not only the engine fire (did they shut the engine down?) and that damage to be investigated and repaired, but I would surmise an over-weight landing too, since they apparently didn't dump fuel. Of course, a fire would mean get on the ground quickly... Over-weight landings be damned.

Thank you for that response...I am a pilot. I know how to use automation. BUT? I know how to actually FLY an airplane....

You know what you're talking about. The A-330, like all commercial airliners, have a STANDBY set of flight instruments. "Pitch. Power. Airspeed" I was a Flight Instructor before I was an airline pilot. Control the damn airplane FIRST!!! Fly it. The tragic loss of Air France 447? A few pilots did not learn that lesson....

I know. France is in Europe. I am saying, here, that NOT all airline pilots are well trained. Some slip through. An A-330 is an incredible machine, of course. BUT if one or two pitot tubes get iced over? The computers that display info to the pilots can go "haywire", to use a collequial phrase. EVERY modern air;iner has a set of "Stand-By instruments. Air France 447? THOSE pilots should have used them ....PITCH, POWER, AIRSPEED....these are basics.

Greg77FA? You and I both know that once on-board a few drinks provided BY the F/As isn't bad. In the rare case that an emergency develops?? YOU, as a Flight Crew member will assign ABAs (Able Bodied Assistants) to Exits. That's in your training, correct?? I feel that IN such a scenario, the adrenaline kicks in...and any alcohol in the person's body is overrun.
