Alaska Airlines employee sparks innovative recycling tactic in Nome, Alaska, changing the game for Cargo business & planet

提交时间:

Through her work with Kawerak, Tozier has observed her community’s efforts to collect recycling, which sometimes sits for months waiting for space on barges headed to Seattle. Materials come in and never leave, she said. Sometimes, it’s heavy equipment, lead-acid batteries, electronics — things that are usually expensive to transport and unhealthy for the environment if left unattended. So, Tozier was inspired to do something to fix it. (news.alaskaair.com) 更多...

Glad to see that common sense does at times win the day and bravo to her. The real story here, IMHO, is that corporate listened and allowed a bottom-up idea to take hold. Alaska Airlines get some equity as well in the form of PR.

Nice to hear an employee getting recognition for a change. It's usually an employee idea, but then again someone higher up the food chain will claim it as their own idea.

Now we need all the other airports who have load ballast on planes to copy the idea. Any pilot who has to fly a plane with ballast could also pass the word.

Great idea, but I hope precautions are taken to keep any lithium-ion batteries in electronic waste off the aircraft.

cool! though I, too, am nervous transporting lithium-ion. Too many batt 'incidents' in R/C days to record.

IIRC most, if not all, lithium batteries will be removed and not be transported.
