A no brainier to me. We went there to send a message and kill some people. We did it. Then we fell off into the nation building business AGAIN. FAIL!! Time to cut. IMHO.
yep
Hey, while I'm thinking about it, when did you leave 'Nam
May, 71.
I was just curious. You ran about a year ahead of me. I was just watching some 40 year history film of that mess the other day and wondered if you were in that last bunch out of Saigon. Guess you weren't. LOL
Shows you how times have changed though. I remember watching all those final over there on black and white TV.
By the time I left (I corp) it was already obvious what was going to happen. Our Lam Son 719 operation in March slowed the NVA a bit and bought time for more withdrawals. The DMZ to DaNang was beginning to look like a ghost town; except for the NVA. LOL
Yeah, and there toward the end, I know the ARVN was supposed to take everything over. Good idea but we see how it worked out. Most of the ones in this mid east mess today weren't even born or were just kids then and not caring about reading any history, will repeat all them mistakes and that's what we are seeing now, just a different part of the world.
Amen
