Prescott PIREP: Local Pilots Offer Tips

提交时间:

Several pilots based at Ernest A. Love Field in Prescott, Arizona, offer tips on flying into the airport for the AOPA Fly-In Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Love Field is located 7 miles north of Prescott, at an elevation of 5,044 feet. Runway 3R/21L is 7,619 by 150 feet and Runway 3L/21R is 4,846 by 60 feet; the crosswind runway, 12/30, is 4,408 by 75 feet, although it will be closed for aircraft parking during the AOPA event. It sounds like a good opportunity for the local students to take the weekend off...

Appreciate your update, as I no longer fly and therefore, don't need to check Notams. . My line of thinking was that a bunch of students doing touch-and-goes on a limited number of runways on a weekend where there is a major AOPA event might not be a great idea. I haven't flown into Prescott since 1973 and it certainly didn't blend in then, easy to see, at least with my 19 year-old eyes! Maybe things have changed. In this day and age of GPS, finding the airport shouldn't be a problem.

BTW, I've been mentoring a wanna-be Airline Pilot (I'm retired now) who assures me that he is well trained regarding what to do if the almighty GPS goes out. He's a sharp guy, so I don't doubt him.

We're getting off topic but this is an old thread, what the heck? I thought the Prescott meet was last weekend, not this coming one. Nonetheless, I've done the SGU-LAS road trip twice in the last six weeks and that's the shortest route to PRC, so no dice. That thing called the 'Grand Canyon' gets in the way.

I haven't flown as Captain/Pilot in over seven years. It was a 757, perfect weather and yes, the landing was good and I'll remember it forever. No water salute, no problem. The temp was in the twenties and all that water would have turned into ice. Someday, I'll 'rent' a starving Flight Instructor (I was one once!) and we'll go fly over Zion NP, if that's still allowed. I retired early, wanting to ensure the security of my lump sum retirement package. When the airline talked of Chapter 11 for a third time, I bailed and moved back out west, where I belong.
