FlightAware January 2010 General Aviation Report

HOUSTON - According to FlightAware's proprietary flight tracking database, general aviation (GA) flight activity has decreased by 0.8% in January 2010 compared to December 2009, and has decreased by 3.1% in January 2010 compared to January 2009. The biggest change in activity was led by charter operators with a 15.9% decrease in activity during January 2010 compared to December 2009.

The airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of January 2010 was Dekalb-Peachtree in Atlanta, GA with a gain of 59.5%, contrasted by the airport with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was Chicago Midway Intl in Chicago, IL with a loss of 18.3%. Year over year, the airport with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for January 2010 was Nashville Intl in Nashville, TN with an increase of 20.5%, but the biggest drop in GA traffic was found at Vero Beach Muni in Vero Beach, FL with a decrease of 16.6%.

General aviation single engine and multi-engine piston activity decreased by -0.0% in January 2010 compared to December 2009, turboprop activity decreased by 3.5% in January compared to December, and jet activity has not changed in January compared to December. The aircraft type with the largest significant gain in GA traffic for the month of January was the Socata TBM-700 with a gain of 18.8%, contrasted by the aircraft type with the biggest significant drop in traffic, which was the Dassault Falcon 20 with a loss of 27.1%. Year over year, the aircraft type with the largest significant gain in traffic for January was the Aero Commander 500 with an increase of 24.3%, but the biggest drop in traffic was found with the Piper Navajo with a decrease of 23.5%.
