Lets hope the single engine performance is better than the original "Shrieks" ! Great photo!

Always a thought for Bob Hoover

I flew several different Aero Commanders in the 1970s. It’s a truly sweet aircraft. I’m not sure what model this is, but looks like a stretch 680FL (Grand Commander). I enjoyed flying one of those so much that I can help but get a putter-patter when I see one.

RIP Bob, indeed! One of the best stick&rudder men ever. For those unfamiliar with Bob Hoover and his connection to the Commander, he was the only person to ever loop a (piston-powered Shrike Aero) Commander with one engine out. But that is not all, he did it in Colorado with an entry point well over a mile above sea level and accomplished a nearly perfectly circular "air show" loop. Look it up on U-tube... Oh and the Shrike was not the "original" it was the first buyer after Aero got the airframe certificate. Bob was to pilot that renewal of the cart for Shrike.

renewed the certificate for Shrike.

UUMMM, me thinks more likely either a 900, 980, or 1000 (5 square windows starboard side), late model anyway.

Mr. Hoover flew an entire aerobatic routine with both engines out, and would re-start them at the top of a loop. He said the hardest part of the routine was hot starting the engines.
