Great aircraft!
The eight blade Skier 490 is an LC-130, ski-equipped aircraft from the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing
Awesome flight machine. It´s a Hercules C-130, Called in Brazil "The Fat" or in portuguese "o gordo"
Flew to South Pole on these beauties many times in the 90s
A true "giant"slalom skier! Way cool C-130..
I flew the "A" model version of this, called a C-130D back in the early 1970's. We were home based at Elmendorf AFB in Alaske but usually had two and sometimes three birds and crews at Sondrestrom AB (now Kangerluusuaq) on a rotation basis. We were the sole link to the "outside" world for the personnel stationed at two DEW (Distant Early Warning) sites out on the Greenland Icecap (Dye II and Dye III also called Sob Story and Sea Bass)at elevations of approx 7600' msl and 8700' msl. I have 42 C-130 ski landings in my logbook - not many have those. Woo, hooo! Old geezer, Jim.
Nice
