This was probably my last chance to ever photograph a U.S. Phantom in the low level regime.
beautiful photo , ( photo ! )
What is that thing, looks like a headlight, on the left wing station?
John, its called a TISEO (Target Identification Sensor Electro Optical) it was basically a tv camera with a long lens attached.
I flew this aircraft at SJAFB 334TFS 1988-1991. We would fly low level 300 feet AGL at 540 KTS.
@ utility99 I was a witness to that. I'm from Eastern NC, and I can remember the runs to the bombing range and how these beautiful birds along with A-7's, A-6's, Harriers, A-4's, and the occasional A-10, would fly no more than 500 AGL. I can still see the pilots under the canopy in my head...that was about 30 years ago...AN AVGEEK WAS BORN!!!
what a beast. So....what was the glide-slope ~??
Great photo! What was the last year that Phantom's were flown in here in the USA? When were they all retired? I know that they lasted quite a while in Germany.
Habujet,
How can I get some high resolution .jpg files so I can print some of your pics?
