Lockheed L-394 Viking (16-0607)

Here one of only a handful shots of a retired Navy Lockheed S-3B Viking before becoming NASA 601. This S-3B, BuNo 160607, c/n 394A-3187, was the last one to roll off the line 46 years ago in August 1978. I took this shot on the NASA ramp adjacent to KCLE during firefighter response training on 29 Mar 2004, just after it was removed from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 20 naval aviation inventory and acquired by NASA earlier in the month. This was one of three S-3’s, along with 159746 and 160583, transferred to NASA for research.
