TRANSALL C-160 (N64GQ)
To celebrate the day that FA's Photo Gallery hit the 100,000 pic mark, I am submitting this photo. Not the best shot in the final moments of daylight (7:56 PM), but it's worth sharing because this is not an everyday sighting, even for an airport as busy as SFO. Ten minutes later and I could not have obtained a salvageable pic. I was initially confused by the red, white and blue roundel which led me to believe this was a Royal Air Force aircraft. When I reexamined the photo more closely, I realized the color sequence in the roundel was reversed from the RAF roundel and the mystery was solved. This is a French Air Force Transall C-160R and most of these aircraft have been phased out of service. When first produced, this a/c was a C-160G Gabriel until all such models were upgraded back in the '90s. Note the mismatched prop blades on the two power plants. Congratulations, Flight Aware, on achieving the 100,000 picture level today. * This was pic 100,076. *
