6715690 —
US Army Reg #: 67-15690
AH-1G Cobra
Shot down on 19 Jan 1972 while on a mission from Da Nang to Phu Bai (near Hue), Vietnam.
Struck by two .30 caliber rounds. One severed control cables and the Cobra crashed upside down in a rice paddy.
It was recovered a day later, repaired, and placed back in service.
It is now on permanent loan and (as seen here) is on static display in my hometown at the Veteran's Memorial Park on Niagara St., City of Tonawanda, N.Y.

Sincere Thanks to my 1968 classmate, US Army E-8 (Ret) Dennis Smilinich (101st Airborne Division), for his diligent effort that resulted in this Vietnam War "Vet" Cobra being permanently loaned for display in the Veteran's Memorial Park.
Hi Gary, nice pic and an interesting back story. Thanks for sharing.
I have been catching up and just learned of your misfortune. I had been wondering why you were "so quiet". I hope all is good, that you're on the mend, and well on the way to a full recovery.
Get well soon, my friend, and hope to continue receiving your fantastic snaps.

Good one Gman - nice Tribute photo here and story. My oldest brother was US Army and ended up flying a USA 2-Star around for a bit.
