Lockheed C-130 Hercules (62-1857)
Thirty-four years ago, on April 24, 1980, this EC-130E, Call Sign "Republic Five," was a part of the "Eagle Claw" operation intended to rescue the Iran hostages. The mission failed. I caught this shot of this historic 50+ y/old aircraft last year as it was climbing out from RNO's runway 16R and flying past me as I stood on Rattlesnake Mountain. Today, 62-1857 is in a boneyard.
Comments
An information update >> I just discovered that "Republic Five" (62-1857) is NOT in a boneyard. This historic aircraft is now on static display at the Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte.
