This Boeing C-17A is USAF s/n 07-7187, c/n 50205. According to Mr. Joe Baugher's published information, it was built and initially accepted as USAF s/n 08-8187 before being re-serialized 07-7187.
FAA registration N77187 is not a current "N" number and shows as a 1946 Cessna 140 that was deregistered in 1951.

Flightaware "helpfully" adds the N when I put 77187 in. I can't figure out how to undo it.

Not to worry, Paul.. that's okay and FlightAware's data entry screen has some quirks in it. I'm glad you were able to add the number update!
