CURTISS Warhawk —

Capt. Harvey Elling, USAAF, 14th AF, 51st Fighter Group, 16th Fighter Squadron stationed at Kumming, China in late 1942. Capt. Elling is in the back with no hat on. With his passing in Sept. 2013, he was the last living post-AVG Flying Tiger pilot. The end of an era for what is truly the Greatest Generation.

Capt. Elling? Just maybe a long lost relative. I had many great uncle's in the war, most of them in the pacific, with the Marines. Heck my grandmothers uncle was some kind of big shot ( actually he was ) Fleet Admiral William Halsey or "Bull" Halsey.
