N11154 —
Approach to the overhead at Hill AFB, UT - late '80s. Me in the white hat in #2
Comments
USAF 11154 does not equal N11154. That registration number is unassigned by the FAA. The number on the tail of the Cessna is an Air Force ID.
This Cessna O-2A Super Skymaster is USAF s/n 68-11154, c/n 337M-0379.
Paul, the "N11154" is a result of entering just the numbers "11154" into FA's data entry screen. FA automatically adds the "N" suffix.
If the full Air Force aircraft serial had been entered the results would have been different.
This is why you'll see U.S.A.F. military aircraft photos on FA showing a FAA "N" registration (with a few exceptions).
So, call it a FA glitch... it wasn't directly done by the photographer. Should you ever upload any photos to FA's site, you would no doubt have run across this.
