McDonnell Douglas DC-8-60 — - Sydney 1972. A DC-8-63 and a few other classics! Sorry everyone, but I didn’t record registrations in those days and as it’s not visible I can’t advise which DC-8 it was.

I did a lot of walking around the airport finding various parked aircraft. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this was at the old Qantas jet base. This is another photo taken on a Kodak Instamatic so the quality isn’t so great.

Great shot Gavin of KLM's Super 63. This is definitely outside the Qantas maintenance base, which hasn't really changed all that much since this photo was taken. The single aisle DC8 Super 61 and the 63 were certified to carry up to 251 pax in an all economy layout. Looks like KLM had their main galley area just forward of the wing root leading edge portside, judging by the lack of windows in that area.

Thanks for the compliment Chris and also thanks for the backup info.

Gavin you have the best history! The cars in the photo along with the aircraft capture these moments. Well done!

Thanks Darryl. Be interesting to see that spot now but from what one of the respondents wrote, it seems that other than the planes and the cars, it hasn't changed that much.

Perfect on the Instamatic....the Jet name is below the Cockpit window, I bet with a bit of research and if you can use a magnifying glass or ocular, you can count the letters and maybe get a series in a row of letters and that should help on the ID if you feel up to it....the first name is probably similar to any other same year DC-8...Like Pan Am had " Clipper ...." on so on..5x great shot.

Thanks for the compliment Tom and thanks for the hint. I don't have the slides anymore but do have access - all donated to the SA Aviation Museum. One day perhaps when all scanning is done (doing negs these days) and there's nothing else to do...
