— — - This C-5A is taking off from Yokota Air Base near Tokyo, Japan in 1973. These planes were used extensively during the Viet Nam War. Yokota AB was an en route stopping point for Military Airlift Command cargo planes like this C-5A pictured above and its smaller brother, the C-141A. Servicing was handled by the 610 MASS (Military Airlift Support Squadron). At times there would be five or more of these C-5As and 20-30 C-141As parked at Yokota. They were coming or going to Asian destinations or returning to the United States.
