EC-1 (78-1021) The Last Flight.
Comments
I can't guess what it is. More info would be a big help.
Kawasaki EC1
Kawasaki EC-1 Electronic Countermeasure Jammer aircraft reminds me of the Boeing EC-135E with the bulbous noses which serve to identify the type. Identified by the “Droop Snoot” nose, “Bird of Prey” was one of eight modified C-135s that were a joint project between NASA and the DoD to provide mobile tracking and telemetry as an Apollo/Range Instrumentation Aircraft (A/RIA). They became operational in Jan. 1968 and served with the 4950th Test Wing and the 412th Test Wing over a 32-year career. The bulbous nose contains a steerable seven-foot antenna.
This Kawasaki EC-1 is a derivative of the C-1 transport aircraft, modified as an electronic warfare trainer.
This aircraft (78-1021) is the only one that has been modified.
This aircraft will also be retired in March 2025.
The demonstration flight at the Iruma Air Base Air Festival will be its last.
It's unfortunate, but that time will come someday.
I would like to convey my joy and gratitude to everyone in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force for having been able to witness this demonstration flight.
Thank you.
